About Lymphedema

Lymphedema is a potential side effect of breast cancer surgery and radiation therapy that can appear in some people during the months or even years after treatment ends.

During breast cancer surgery (mastectomy or lumpectomy), some of the lymph nodes in the underarm (called axillary lymph nodes) may be removed.
This may prevent lymph fluid from leaving the area. 
Lymphedema occurs when lymph fluid collects in the arm (or other area such as the hand, fingers, chest or back) causing it to swell (edema).
​In severe cases, lymphedema can cause pain and limit movement. Also, it can be quite upsetting to have one arm become larger than the other, even if the change is small.

Wearing compression armsleeves with proper compression level to prevent and protect the effected area from getting worse.

关于淋巴水肿

在乳癌切除手术过程中，一些淋巴结会被摘除用于检查是否有癌细胞。 这会影响到淋巴液的循环。当淋巴循环不畅时就会在上肢，腋下，手部，手指，胸部，背部引起淋巴水肿。

 乳癌患者做了乳房切除手术尤其是有淋巴结摘除的乳癌患者在手术后的任何时间（1 - 30 年）里有25%-50%的概率会发生淋巴水肿。 而一旦得了淋巴水肿，就很难痊愈，只能尽最大的可能去控制。

淋巴水肿的分期
第一期： 用手指去按压，会形成一个凹窝。
第二期：皮下组织纤维化，皮肤变硬而且厚。
第三期： 肢体变硬变厚，皮肤角质化并生长出一些突起物，就像大象腿一样出现厚的皱褶。

淋巴水肿的预防

• 预防患侧上肢损伤、感染;
• 避免患侧上肢药物注射、抽血、免疫接种以及血压测量;
• 避免患侧上肢高温，如热水浸泡、日光暴晒、桑拿浴等;
• 避免穿戴过紧的内衣、项链和吊带胸罩;
• 避免患侧上肢作高强度的运动、搬运重物等活动。
• 正常运动，但不过度。
• 避免患肢长期处于下垂状态，若有可能可将患肢抬高。

佩戴压力袖可以有效地预防和改善患侧淋巴水肿的状况。
